Use the space under coffee tables! Baskets can be used to attractively store and organize movies, books and stuff for the kiddos and them placed under coffee tables.
Inexpensive nightstands make great coffee tables and often have drawers or shelves to use as well.
If you're not attached to your DVD cases, store your DVDs inside a binder-type album. This can significantly cut down the amount of space needed to store the movies while still keeping them easy to get to.
