Saving Space in the Home Office
Inexpensive plastic letter trays are great for creating vertical storage space for printer paper, stationary and incoming mail.
Don't actually have a home office? Create a traveling one by purchasing an inexpensive plastic file box. It can be easily stored inside the foot of a closet and pulled out when needed. Keep stamps, envelopes, pens and your home directory binder inside.
Can't afford a safe deposit box or simply don't want the hassle? Make copies of important documents, place them all in an envelope and ask a trustworthy friend or relative to keep them in a safe place for you.
Concerned about identity theft but don't have a shredder? Do you have a sharpie or a pair of scissors and an eager, older child? Throw mail that has personal information on it into a small basket. When the basket is full, ask your child to either sharpie-out the information or use the scissors to cut up the information. A small basket takes up infinitely less space than does a paper shredder and your industrious little kiddo can feel good about helping to protect the family!
