Saving Money on Groceries
Any mom trying to get the most for her grocery dollar is a work-at-home mom. The family grocery bill is the single most effective way to take control of the household budget. Take the tips below to hit the store running!
Purchase according to unit price, not necessarily sale or coupon price. The unit price (the teeny, tiny number often in the lower left hand corner on the shelf tag) is a better indicator of whether or not you're getting a good deal!
Though often called "grazing" by store employees, if you're hungry - grab a snack! Either purchase it while shopping or go ahead and break into a box of crackers you're purchasing anyway. A quick snack will keep you from purchasing impulse items and the store would rather you be in their establishment making purchases anyway!
Though it's not legal to double coupons by using multiples, you can compound your savings by using a manufacturer coupon on top of a store sale price!
Visit the customer service desk at your local grocery store. Many stores carry additional coupon booklets that aren't as widely distributed as the weekly sales flier. If not, the trip isn't wasted! Ask for additional sales fliers so that you have coupon multiples!
If you know that you're not going to use an item up right away, freeze half. It's almost always cheaper to buy in bulk, but only if you don't let unused portions go to waste!
